Mandy arrived in Cartagena de Indias with a clear idea in mind: to take a picture in front of the imposing Palenquera monument, a figure that represents the strength, color, and history of the Colombian Caribbean. What she didn't imagine was that this idea would turn into a much bigger experience. At Cartagena Photographer, we weren't satisfied with the typical tourist photo: we arranged for her to wear an authentic Palenquera dress, the same dress with wide skirts and turban that these women wear every day to go out into the streets of the historic center to earn a living selling fruit. And we went a step further: we invited a real Palenquera woman to share the session with her, so that everything would be a genuine tribute to the culture and not just a simple costume. The result was a photo shoot in Cartagena that completely surpassed what Mandy had imagined: between the Clock Tower and the large stone monument dedicated to these women.
Thank you!
